Who we are
heicdrop is a free website that converts HEIC photos, common image formats, and videos to MP4. You can reach the operator at the address below.
The short version
Your photos are processed on your device. They are not uploaded to us. There is no account. If you accept advertising, Google may collect data as described below.
Photos stay on your device
When you drop a file, your browser reads it locally. HEIC photos are decoded with libheif. Other images are redrawn by the browser. Videos are converted with FFmpeg. The file is not sent to heicdrop, to the host, or to an advertising network.
Because the picture is redrawn, the new file does not include the original EXIF metadata. That includes GPS location, camera model, and timestamps. Keep the original HEIC if you need that information.
What stays in your browser
We store two small preferences in localStorage on your device: the language you pick, and, if ads are enabled, your ad consent choice. We do not store your photos. Clearing site data for this website removes those preferences.
Connection logs
The pages, scripts, and the decoder file are downloaded from our host, such as Vercel or Cloudflare. The host may keep ordinary connection logs, including IP address, user agent, and the URL of the file requested, for security and operations. Those logs are about loading the website. They do not contain your photos.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense when a publisher ID is configured. When the consent bar is on, the ad script loads only after you press Accept. Reject means we do not load it. If you later open Ad choices and reject, we stop requesting new ads.
Google may use cookies or similar identifiers to measure ads and, when you allow it, to choose them. Google can receive your IP address and browser data. We do not give Google your photos.
You can change your choice from Ad choices in the footer. You can also manage Google ads from Google’s own settings.
Cookies
heicdrop itself does not set tracking cookies. Language and consent use localStorage, which is not a cookie. Google AdSense, if you accept it, may set cookies. Choose Reject to use the tool without advertising cookies.
EEA, UK, and Switzerland
We rely on consent for advertising cookies and personalized ads. The converter is provided because you asked for it. The host’s connection logs are used for the legitimate interest of keeping the site secure and available.
You can withdraw ad consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect a conversion that already happened on your device, because we never received the file.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data, to object, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we do not receive your photos, we usually hold nothing about a picture. Contact us and we will help, including pointing you to Google where Google is the controller of ad data.
United States
We do not sell your photos, and we do not share them for advertising, because we never receive them. If you accept AdSense, Google’s use of advertising identifiers may count as a share or sale under some state privacy laws. Reject ads to opt out. A browser Global Privacy Control signal is treated as a request to keep advertising off until you explicitly accept in that browser session.
Children
heicdrop is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has accepted advertising cookies, contact us and reject ads on that device.
International transfers
The site may be hosted in the United States or another country where the host operates. If you accept ads, Google may process advertising data in the United States and other countries.
Open source
HEIC conversion uses heic-to and libheif under the GNU LGPL-3.0. Video conversion uses FFmpeg under the GPL-3.0. Other images are converted by your browser. These components are loaded as their own files. Links to the source and the licenses are below.
Changes
We may update this policy when the product or the law changes. The date at the top is the current version. If a change materially affects advertising, we will ask for ad consent again.
Contact
Email the address below. Please do not attach photos. We do not need them, and email is a poor place for pictures of other people.
